They lead the list which also includes The Paul Butterfield Blues Band; the late singer Lou Reed; German electronics group, Kraftwerk; Motown singer, The Marvelettes; and The Smiths, who disbanded many years ago.
Artists who are considered worthy entry in this list at least released their first album 25 years ago.
"Rock and roll style incorporates many different types of music and it's what makes these groups as a nominee, and the art form is very strong and unique," said Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.
Rocker Joan Jett & the Blackhearts; Chic soul group; N.W.A rapper; the late blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan; California funk group, War; R & B group The Spinners; and singer Bill Withers was also nominated.
More than 700 artists, music industry professionals and historians will decide who will enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
Five of the artists are chosen by the public will go "fan voting" which will be calculated with the voting results from the designated pick artists that made the list in 2015.
The winners will be announced in December, and his name placed on the Hall of Fame ceremony in Cleveland on April 18.
